The more resources I can provide online for parents to access, the more it will support students’ learning and development. This will make my teaching goal of ensuring students learn more achievable.

I have provided a lot more learning resources for families to access and practice at home.

While it may not have a direct impact on my personal life, it has increased my confidence and capability as an educator.

Today’s Class Site Goals

I successfully accomplished all three goals. I added electronic reading books that cater to different reading levels, along with spelling lists and math strategies for parents to practice with their children. I want to add more Maths strategies in the near future. Additionally, I changed the images and fonts to ensure consistent font styles and colour themes throughout the site.

Sharing can act like a powerful motivator for young people. It creates a satisfying feeling when they finish and achieve something, while also helping them connect with others through their work. Receiving feedback from family, friends, and even strangers can build confidence and encourage growth. Sharing is also a great way to deepen understanding, as it allows young people to reflect on their ideas and see different perspectives. Additionally, sharing digitally helps teach them how to communicate positively and responsibly online, which is an important skill for today’s world.

I learnt how to use my google maps for the first time, I thought it was interesting to use this tool personally for trips or travel. In the classroom, I would use it to create shared maps of places like parks, zoos, and shopping malls. This would be a great way to teach students about community while also creating a visual representation of important locations. Visual tools like maps can help students organise their ideas and better understand connections between places. We could also use it to explore famous landmarks around the world or to support learning in geography more generally.

Here is a route I want to walk in the future.

I had never created my own spreadsheet before, so there was a lot to learn. One helpful tip I discovered is that if you click the very first cell in the top left corner, it highlights all the cells at once, which makes formatting much easier. I would use Google Sheets in the classroom to organise my students’ grades for each subject and track their progress over time. Spreadsheets allow teachers to create digital gradebooks and monitor student data in one place . I also liked that you can turn data into graphs, which makes it easier to see patterns and understand progress visually. Overall, I feel much more confident using this tool now and can see how useful it will be in my teaching practice.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

To engage our students in their learning, we need to provide a “hook” that allows them to create through media. Young people are more inclined to create rather than passively receive information. By encouraging them to create, they can express themselves and enhance their understanding. Creation is a vital approach to pedagogy, helping students remember and learn more effectively. Therefore, it is essential to incorporate creation into the learning process.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

Using Google Slides is helpful for explaining concepts with pictures and animations. I learned how to access subject folders on Hapara. Downloading students’ slides onto their blogs might be challenging because of their age (Year 3).

What did I learn that could be used with my learners

Students can create something digital related to what they have learned. They can use Google Video for recording themselves, Google Drawings for comic strips, and Google Slides for animations. I probably won’t use YouTube with them.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

I want to create a YouTube video on tutoring individuals with dyslexia; I now know how to set up a channel.

It is essential for educators to maintain an organised approach to their work. They demonstrated effective strategies for achieving this by organising browser tabs and bookmarks. Furthermore, they provided guidance on utilising Google Meet, managing email effectively, and encouraged the adoption of Google Calendar for optimal scheduling and time management.

• What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

My break out teacher Fiona taught me to use google vid which is going to be useful for sharing any video either of students work or  myself teaching. I believe that utilising Google Keep will be beneficial for creating digital copies of books and other relevant materials.

• What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

I was unable to record my Google Meet, even though I created it. I’m not sure why the recording option wasn’t available; the recording button was grayed out, preventing me from pressing it. I believe I will use Google Videos more often than Google Meet for recording, as it allows me to record my lessons for students to revisit later.

• What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

I learned how to set up a Google Meet and unsubscribed from emails that I did not want appearing in my inbox.
